Part Time Human Resources Opportunity

Overview, Objectives, & Duties

The City of Birmingham, MI is seeking applicants for the position of Human Resources Intern. The internship is intended to provide the Intern with an opportunity to gain experience in a professional and diverse work environment in order to prepare for a career in the human resources or management profession. The Intern is expected to add value to the operations of the City’s Human Resources Department by applying the knowledge gained through related coursework and past work experience.

Under the supervision of the Human Resources Department, the Intern will complete a variety of functions to assist the department in its operations. Work assignments will include completing routine department functions and assisting in recruitment and selection, labor relations, and benefits administration activities.

The Intern will be expected to work a schedule of up to 30 hours per week. Work schedule may be flexible to accommodate current coursework. Pay starting at $12.00 per hour, with a formal review after 6 months.

Qualifications

Junior, Senior, or Graduate level students enrolled in Business/Public Administration, Human Resources, Management, or other related programs are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent writing, interpersonal, communication, customer service, and analytical skills. Experience with Windows-based computer systems and common office software applications are required.
