Part time/non paid internship with local Translation Agency

We are a translation agency located in Hamtramck. Our clients are government agencies, legal organizations, medical institutions, non-profits, and businesses. The services we provide range from simple translations of a birth certificate or academic records to website localization and DTP services. Also, we train bilingual individuals to become legal and/or medical interpreters. We do a lot of outreach to make consumers of translation and interpretation services be aware of the rights of non-English speaking patients/clients, etc., as well as to familiarize them with the criteria of a competent interpreter in those areas. We are the only translation agency in Michigan to have a GSA Federal Supply Schedule contract, and we are a DBE and WBE certified company.

As far as our internship program, we have worked with many bilingual interns as well as with some who were not proficient in a second language and were majoring in other subjects. Our internship program is designed to involve the interns in a variety of different projects while working under supervision of our Project Manager and our Business Development Coordinator to make sure that they can experience a variety of hands-on situations. The internship is a non-paid one, however, we are open to a possibility of hiring after the internship is over.

Currently the intern(s) we are looking for does not necessarily need to be bilingual, because we have a variety of projects not involving languages directly, such as graphic design and DTP, marketing campaigns, community outreach, video production etc. Being bilingual is a plus, nevertheless. In any case students must be interested in working with a variety of people from around the world, be patient with non-English speaking clients, be inquisitive, energetic and open minded.

We don't have any specific requirement as to the GPA, or the student's age.
