Part Time Internship at Canton's Public Library
Marketing Intern Position
The Canton Public Library’s internship program offers paid, practical experience for students. Under the management of the Department Head of Community Relations, the Marketing Intern is responsible for communications efforts, including marketing, advertising and public relations, and tracking of such. The Marketing Intern will work closely with the Community Relations Department Head and Programming Specialists to develop a marketing approach for planned library programs and services.
Marketing Intern positions are reserved for students currently enrolled in a journalism, communications or marketing program at an accredited college or university. Academic credit may be earned. This position is classified as a temporary part-time position and is non-exempt from overtime and provides no benefits afforded to employees classified as "regular." The nature of the work may require daytime, evening, and weekend hours. This is a 12-hour per week position that will end December 31, 2013.
Description:
Assist Community Relations Department Head in marketing library programs, services and outreach.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following; other duties as assigned.
Maintain media contact list, assist with media outreach.
Write press releases, e-newsletter and blog content.
Develop flyers, forms, displays and presentations.
Employ social media and track statistics and outcomes.
Prepare media packets for Library Board meetings.
Work with library partners.
Compile, review and/or interpret statistical data.
Independently, or with others, research, recommend, implement and monitor projects as assigned.
Serve on workgroups/committees and participate in library initiatives as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current enrollment in a journalism, communications or marketing program from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically.
Working knowledge of common computer applications, including Microsoft Office, the Internet and social media.
Ability to complete special projects while maintaining routine duties.
Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
Ability to collaborate in a team environment.
Superior interpersonal and communications skills.
Punctuality and dependabilty.
Preferred Qualifications:
Coursework related to marketing, journalism and/or communications.
Examples of press releases or other marketing communications.
Essential Functions:
Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 25 lbs. and push carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time, and the ability to bend, reach, stoop, or crouch when assisting patrons.
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate in writing and verbally.
Sufficient vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of materials in both electronic and hard copy form.
Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions in a fast-paced environment.

Hiring Range and Hours Per Week:
At-will, 12 hours/week position including some evening and weekend hours.
